Hi, My name is Kerry, I came to work in the childcare field by chance and have done so for the past 10 years. Whilst studying music at college I got a part time job in an after school club in order to earn a bit of extra money. When I started this job, I realised that this is what I should have been doing all along as I was able to apply my creative and artistic skills to my job when working with the children and thus share my love of music and art. I found that I got a real sense of pride and achievement when teaching the children things such as: how to make something during a craft activity and enjoyed watching the children flourish and learn, I also found I enjoyed listening to the questions that the children posed and watching the children use their individual skills, knowledge and talents to problem solve and explore the world around them. Not only this but I really love the close bonds which are formed between myself and the children that I care for. I have worked with a vast age range of children and within a variety of different types of childcare settings and have undertaken a variety of different job roles. I have worked within a nursery as a nursery nurse, an out of school club as a play worker, deputy manager and manager, a youth club, as a youth club assistant delivering an arts and crafts session, within a school as a teaching assistant and lastly but not least as a childminder. I also have babysitting experience. My work history within the childcare sector has enabled me to gain experience of working with children between the ages of 0 and 14 years old and spans a period of 9 years. I also have valuable personal experience of bringing up my own children.
I think I am perfect for my chosen career as I have got a love of children, an ambition to work with children and have got the relevant skills, knowledge, talents and interpersonal skills which will appeal to children. I feel that I am good at evaluating my practice and when in a position to do so, strive to improve my practice by making small changes in light of my findings identified within my evaluations. I am genuinely fascinated by how children learn and develop and have studied childcare and development up to BSc Honours level, which is a level 6 qualification on the qualification assessment framework. I intend to continue my studies and hope in the future to achieve Early Years Teacher Status. I am very reliable, hardworking and dedicated to my job and I have good references to prove this. I continuously strive to be the best that I can be and to deliver a high quality childminding service.
